Purpose
External Fixation is an orthopedic stabilization procedure in which percutaneous pins or wires connected to an external frame are used to rapidly stabilize fractures, restore alignment, preserve soft tissues, and facilitate physiologic recovery.
External fixation is commonly utilized as:
- Damage-control orthopedics (DCO)
- Temporary fracture stabilization

Under SCF-DBI, External Fixation is not simply mechanical fracture stabilization.
