External Ventricular Drain (EVD)
SOC → SCF-DBI Logic Translation
Purpose
An External Ventricular Drain (EVD) is a neurosurgical device placed into the cerebral ventricular system to simultaneously:
- Monitor intracranial pressure (ICP)
- Drain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
- Reduce intracranial hypertension
- Improve cerebral perfusion
- Manage hydrocephalus
- Prevent secondary neurologic injury
Unlike standard ICP monitors, the EVD is both a monitoring and therapeutic intervention.
Under SCF-DBI, EVD placement is viewed as establishment of a Dynamic Neurofluid Regulation Interface (DNRI) that continuously stabilizes the cerebral pressure–perfusion–fluid equilibrium system.
