Vascular Shunting

Purpose
Vascular shunting is a temporary vascular reconstruction procedure performed to restore blood flow across an injured artery or vein when definitive repair is not immediately possible or would jeopardize overall patient survival.
The procedure preserves tissue viability by maintaining perfusion during Damage-Control Surgery, prolonged transport, orthopedic stabilization, or physiologic resuscitation.
